"Racing For ALS is about more than just fast cars - It’s about speeding to a cure for ALS!” - David Lloyd, Jr.

Hurricane Relief for Western North Carolina

Racing for ALS is thrilled to announce that we have raised over $45,000 by 152 individuals over our MightyCause fund and cash donations to go towards the Hurricane Relief Fund. In addition, we acquired three vehicles, approximately worth $25,000. As per our 100% donation guarantee, we have actually spent more on supplies that were all delivered to Western North Carolina via our race haulers than the total donations received. From the multiple donation drives, shopping, and automobile donations to date, we would we have delivered over $100,000 in supplies via more than 15 separate trips to those in need in Western North Carolina to help with their recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene.

We have so many people and organizations to thank for supporting us, and wanted to do so below:

Thank you to the: United Church of Apex, Cars & Coffee of the Upstate, Cars and Coffee Morrisville, Inc , Wilmington Hammerheads, Charlotte Custom Stone, South End Capital, Grassroots Magazine for your help in organizing supply drives that were tied to the specific needs of the areas we were delivering to over the month after the storm.

To the local business in the Western North Carolina Mountains, Jimmy & Jean’s Family Entertainment and Arcade, Appalachian Tool and Machine, Inc, in Swannanoa who set aside their normal work to become beacons of generosity for your regions as they converted into distribution hubs of much needed supplies for everyone in the area.

To the following individuals who went over and above to make all of this happen: Rob Wilmoth, Marian Bradley, Amy Brown, Shayna Ricker, Ryan Lohrman, Stephen Miller, Marya Lloyd, Dan and Tim Meyer, Justin and Jewel LaClair, Ryan Cheek Racing, Kyle Quattromani, Kevin Arndt, Rob Pyrock, Joe Hardiston, Eric Garrison, Doug Hilliard, Steven Kyle, Andrew Biesemeier, Norm Adams, and Scott Weatherford.

We would also like to thank our contacts in Spruce Pine that gave us up to date reports on what specific towns needed, Todd Faw and his coworker Tony. These two individuals have been on scene in Lenior, Spruce Pine, and many other counties helping every day since the beginning. Thank you for sacrificing time with your loved ones to help others.

As many of you know, reports were coming in while Dave's Race 6 was happening. We would like to thank our sponsor MongoDB and the Racing for ALS participants for donating their supplies to the first run for the relief effort.

As we transition away from our direct fundraising and delivery efforts for now, we would encourage you to continue supporting Western North Carolina by donating to the following funds that we can verify are being run by locals on the ground who have done a remarkable job throughout this entire crisis:

Valley Hope Foundation - https://www.valleyhopefoundation.org/

Jimmy & Jean’s Family Entertainment and Arcade – They have a charity that was collecting for them and was going to match the donations up to $250k: https://www.etix.com/ticket/d/990/the-acorn-center.jsp

Thank you all again for going over and above the call of duty to help our neighbors in Western North Carolina in their time of need during the immediate aftermath of the storm, and please remember that their needs will continue into the future; so your continued support is greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day!

Thanks for Everything Dave!

Dave’s almost 6-year fight with ALS came to an end on July 25, 2023, peacefully at his home with family around him.  Though we will miss him dearly, we find great solace in knowing that he is no longer in pain, no longer tied to that wheelchair, and today runs free with those who went before him in heaven.

Dave beat the odds with his long fight against ALS, and that fight along with who he was as a person inspired so many people.  That inspiration led those on the Racing for ALS team to raise over 1.1 million dollars since June of 2018 in his honor to help fund the fight against ALS, and to help others battling this disease (Click Here to Donate in Honor of Dave 100% of all funds will go to benefit our Triple Target Funding Program).  That is who David was. He always had a kind word and a wave no matter how he was feeling, or of course a good joke. David loved being able to help others, and David was truly overwhelmed and beyond appreciative of the love shown to him by those who rallied around him and were just an amazing support to him. Even though a thank you doesn’t seem to suffice, we say thank you again to all who have been a part of this journey and helped Dave in his fight to #endals.

He is racing today, he is free, he hurts no more.  Thanks be to God.

Racing for ALS News…..

This is awesome!

Awards and Acknowledgements -

2022 - Check out this awesome video interview with Dr. Bedlack of the Duke ALS Clinic and David Lloyd, Jr. of Racing for ALS! This video is geared towards medical staff to help facilitate the conversation around the advice they give ALS patients, and how PALS like David are making an impact and so helping to bring more hope when receiving an ALS diagnosis is important!

Though this award was made out to David and Scott, this award is 100% for the entire Racing for ALS team who have worked VERY hard to help bring about a cure to this disease and to help put money into the hands of those struggling with the financial burdens of this disease (Over $80,000 in grants paid out to ALS patients/families since December of 2020). Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all that you do to help!!!

A special shout out to two of the Racing for ALS members: Norm Adams, our Director of Charity Outreach, and Andrew Trammell, who is one of our board members, received this award from the The Joe Martin ALS Foundation on our behalf the night before the Burpee-a-thon!

This award was given to us because of our joint work with the JMF via our van program. Racing for ALS has been loaning one of our vans to them for their Greensboro program that currently supports eight ALS families with free rides wherever they need to go whenever they need them.

In honor of Dave’s Race 3 and to mark the end of May / ALS Awareness month, Hendrick Motorsports wrote a really cool article and ran it on their site, click on the screen shot to see the article. As well, they went over and above as that is what HMS does by placing our logo on the William Byron’s #24 Axalta Camaro ZL1-1LE for the Sonoma race on June 6th. We are beyond grateful to Hendrick for helping us raise awareness and funds for ALS research and patients in need! Let’s keep racing until we #endals !!
